The HIV Early Intervention Unit

To ensure that individuals diagnosed with substance use disorders who are living with HIV or at increased risk for HIV transmission have access to appropriate medical, preventive and psychosocial support services.

To provide superior HIV prevention education, testing, and case management services for risk reduction and the empowerment of the Richmond community and individuals identified as living with a substance use disorder and HIV/AIDS or at high risk of HIV transmission.

Special Projects - The Three Pillars Project
(funded by SAMSHA/CSAT #TI18724) within the unit
provides case management to individuals with recent criminal justice involvement , HIV prevention to Latino/Hispanic
residents of Richmond.

Complies with strict training and certification requirements established by the Center for Disease Control (www.cdc.gov) , and in accordance with the “Standards for HIV Prevention Interventions” developed by the Virginia Department of Health and the HIV Community Planning Committee (www.vdh.state.va.us)
Regularly coordinates and
providesskills building groups, HIV testing, and educational events (for RBHA,
contract providers, partner agencies and other organizations, and community health fairs).
The HIV Team: ———————————————————————
The HIV Early Intervention Project Team consists of Certified Outreach Specialists (2), HIV/SA Case Managers (3), an HIV/SA Clinician (1) and the Program Manager. All Team Members have significant experience (average 10 + years) providing comprehensive services to individuals living with substance use disorders and/or HIV.
