Collaboratively enhancing prevention services in the City of Richmond

Our Mission

Friends of Prevention Coalition aims to identify needs and gaps in the community, access funding to enhance prevention programs and provide networking and training opportunities for prevention professionals.

The Coalition utilizes the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) to guide our local prevention efforts.

The SPF uses findings from public health research along with evidence-based prevention programs to build capacity within States and the prevention field. It is designed to promote resilience and decrease risk factors in individuals, families, and communities.

‘A vision for a healthy community’; the SPF uses a five-step process known to promote youth development, reduce risk-taking behaviors, build assets and resilience, and prevent problem behaviors across the life span.

Our Main Prevention Initiatives

Needs Assessment – the coalition surveys community needs and risks that interfere with the healthy development of individuals and the community.

Training – the coalition provides training opportunities for prevention professionals.

Environmental – the coalition produces media campaigns raising awareness on various prevention issues

Collaboration/Networking – the coalition hosts networking opportunities and engages community partners in collaborative projects.
